CLAIMS AND APPEALS TO IMMIGRATION AND REFUGEE BOARD (IRB) OF CANADA
The Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) is responsible for making well
reasoned decisions on immigration and refugee matters, efficiently, fairly and in
accordance with the law. The IRB, the country’s largest independent administrative
tribunal, is comprised of four tribunals or Divisions: The Refugee Protection Division
(RPD), the Refugee Appeal Division (RAD), the Immigration Division (ID) and the
Immigration Appeal Division (IAD).
Accordingly, the Refugee Protection Division (RPD) hears and decides claims for refugee
protection made in Canada in keeping with the international Geneva Convention, as
implemented through the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. The Refugee Appeal
Division (RAD) decides appeals from decisions of the RPD to allow or reject claims for
refugee protection. the Immigration Division (ID), conducts admissibility hearings for
foreign nationals or permanent residents believed to be inadmissible to, or removable
from Canada under the law. The Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) hears appeals on
immigration-related matters. Depending on the type of the claim or of the appeal you
make, our company learns about your situation, review the application you submitted
before, compile the required documents and pieces of information, explain to you about
the hearing at the IRB, prepare you for the hearing, represent you at the hearing and
carries out a follow-up on the decision that the IRB makes.
